About this session#
This workshop, held as part of the Centre for High Performance Computing 2025 National Conference, brought together research software engineers to examine sustainability practices in HPC-enabled research projects. Billed as the first workshop of its kind in Africa, it explored the intersection of research software engineering and high-performance computing.
The session structure included welcome and framing, 3–4 minute lightning talks from participants showcasing their projects, a facilitated discussion identifying recurring challenges and promising practices, and planning for potential community-of-practice initiatives.
Key themes: portability across architectures, performance optimisation, containerisation, dependency management, documentation, and long-term maintenance beyond initial funding cycles.
